Dearest Lizzie,

Hiya, you might notice I’m adding some British slang to my letters, as we have spent time talking to locals in the small city where we’re stationed (sorry, I can’t tell you where). The weather is bloody awful, and I fancy an evening at home with you by my side.

Enough of the British stuff, but I do want you by my side.

I think I can tell you this without the censors blocking it out. I’m in the munitions unit, and I’ll work behind the front lines once the invasion begins. This is a safer place than in the infantry, where my brother is, or—like your brother—dropping bombs over Germany. So don’t worry about my safety. I’m fine.

I’ve become friendly with another soldier in my unit who is learning how to weld. He says he plans on starting his own business in Cincinnati once the war is over. His name is Al, and when I told him about you, he said we have an open invitation to visit him once this war is over. Do you think you would like to visit Cincinnati?

Life is very tedious here. And did I mention lonely? I think about you all the time and can’t wait until I can get home and can hold you in my arms.
